Health Career Pathways

NCI AHEC builds pathways to health careers for students in underserved communities. After building these pathways, NCI AHEC is then able to connect different professionals to the rural and underserved communities that need them. This objective relates to the overall goal of finding healthcare professionals, training them, and keeping them to provide care to underserved communities.

To build pathways to health careers, NCI AHEC provides students who are interested in healthcare with resources that help them excel in their future educational and professional pursuits The resources provided by NCI AHEC are Career Cruising and Pathful Explore. Both are website resources that allow for students to explore different careers within the healthcare field.

Career Cruising:

On this website, students are able to take assessments that match them with careers that are most suitable for them. Students are also able to explore different careers, different colleges and institutions around the U.S. (2-year schools, 4-year schools, career and technical schools, and graduate schools), financial aid options, and employment guides (such as job searches and resume building tools).

Pathful Explore:

This website allows for students to explore different careers and education pathways. Pathful Explore offers career searches, college searches and comparisons, an internship search, job searches, employment guides (resume and cover letter building), and assessments for students to take to better gauge their career interests. On this website, students have access to virtual job shadow videos. These videos provide brief 3–4-minute overviews of specific careers and give students insight into the ins-and-outs of careers they may be interested in. In viewing these videos, students can see a real day-in-the-life of the careers they are interested in. These videos serve to help students better understand what they want to pursue in their future and how to get there.

NCI AHEC Summer Pipeline Programs

NCI AHEC partners with various universities and organizations to host summer programs for high school and college students. These programs strive to increase student interest in the healthcare field and to further develop student healthcare skills.
